"BUTCHER BABIES -Thrown Away" Metal with Attitude, Beauty and Passion

  METAL & DISRUPTION
AMAZING SONG WITH ATTITUDE, BEAUTY & PASSION

"We all come from different places and backgrounds, but every member of this band had to fight to be the person he or she is today. That's the whole basis for the record. It's not a gender thing. It's the inner strength you have to find in order to pull your boots up and keep moving forward, whatever the situation may be" Carla Harvey.

This song appears on the album Take It Like a Man,  the second album of American heavy metal band Butcher Babies. It was released on August 21, 2015 through Century Media Records. Butcher Babies are an American metalcore band from Los Angeles, California. Frontwomen Heidi Shepherd and Carla Harvey, guitarist Henry Flury (Amen), bassist Jason Klein and drummer Chris Warner (Scars of Tomorrow) make up the band. Their debut album, Goliath, was released on July 9, 2013 via Century Media Records. Heidi  Shepherd said "My heroes are Slipknot, Wendy O. Williams, Gwen Stefani, and Joan Jett. Most of them being females that defy the male dominance in music!"

Musical style and influences

Butcher Babies' music has been described as heavy metal, groove metal, and thrash metal. The band has cited artists and bands such as Pantera, Guns N' Roses, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Metallica, Korn, The Misfits, Marilyn Manson, Slayer, and Slipknot as their influences. However, the band Plasmatics had the biggest influence on the band. In an interview, they stated "We are big fans of Wendy O. Williams. We took the name from the Plasmatics Song “Butcher Baby“. Wendy was a bad ass… she didn’t give a fuck what anyone thought… we share that spirit". In an interview with Revolver Magazine, Carla said: "As a biracial kid growing up in the Detroit area, I got a lot of shit for loving hard rock and metal, and seeing musicians that were also African American playing the music I loved made me strong enough to say, “Fuck you, I’m going to like what I want.” While Heidi had said "My heroes are Slipknot, Wendy O. Williams, Gwen Stefani, and Joan Jett. Most of them being females that defy the male dominance in music!" They also stated in an interview, they are heavily influenced by horror movies such as The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, House of 1000 Corpses, and The Devil's Rejects.

In an interview from the Rockstar Mayhem Festival, Heidi stated that she is very influenced by Slipknot, while Carla stated that she's heavily into old school metal such as Slayer and Iron Maiden, Jason's favorite band is Cannibal Corpse, Henry's favorite is Meshuggah, and Chris' favorite is Marilyn Manson. Butcher Babies are influenced by the nu metal genre.

The Butcher Babies are formally known for their aggressive stage appeal, such as wearing nothing but tape over their nipples. This attire is heavily influenced by Wendy O. Williams of the Plasmatics.

Heidi stated in an interview that "Wendy O. Williams was the first female in heavy metal. She had that single, 'Butcher Baby', hence the name BUTCHER BABIES, and she was the first female to just really go all out. She didn't care what anyone told her. She was going to be the performer she wanted to be without anyone telling her 'No'. We were both hugely influenced by her, and that's where the attire came from."

Reaction to Criticism

Often being judged as less powerful and influential in the heavy metal industry due to their genders, Harvey and her fellow Butcher Babies vocalist, Heidi Shepherd, never dwell on negative criticism. As Harvey mentioned in an interview with Blabbermouth.net: "There's always gonna be haters. We actually don't really play into the negativity, or read into the negativity. I think people are afraid of sexuality, especially Americans." She supports greater female representation in the metal music scene.

BUTCHER BABIES – LYRICS
 THROWN AWAY

Somewhere out in space
I've lost myself, I've been misplaced
Somehow I've been thrown away
I've grown allergic to an image, fractured by an idea
My brain is full of rot and disease
I've been thrown away

Let's make believe that these walls could sing
They'd open up and they'd welcome me
But in the end I know it's been a dream
Let's make believe that these shadows screamed
They'd reach out, they'd hold on to me
But in the end I know it's been a dream

I walk these streets like a phantom limb
I should belong but I don't fit in
I feel I've been thrown away
I've tried to make myself better, tried every pill
I will burn everything when I feel threatened
I fear in empty space

Let's make believe that these walls could sing
They'd open up and they'd welcome me
But in the end I know it's been a dream
Let's make believe that these shadows screamed
They'd reach out, they'd hold on to me
But in the end I know it's been a dream

Slow down, please don't throw me away
With each step towards regret I know I've done it to myself
Slow down, don't forget me
I've tried to push the blame but I've done it to myself

Let's make believe that these walls could sing
They'd open up and they'd welcome me
But in the end I know it's been a dream
Let's make believe that these shadows screamed
They'd reach out, they'd hold on to me
But in the end I know it's been a dream
