"Why Academics are losing relevance in Society"

By Andrew J. Hoffman via theconversation.com

A January 2015 Pew Research Center study found an alarming chasm between the views of scientists and the views of the public. Here is just a sampling:   87 percent of scientists accept that natural selection plays a role in evolution, 32 percent of the public agree; 88 percent of scientists think that genetically modified foods are safe to eat, 37 percent of the public agree; 87 percent of scientists think that climate change is mostly due to human activity, only 50 percent of the public agree.

This is a cause for concern. In our increasingly technological world, issues like nanotechnology, stem cell research, nuclear power, climate change, vaccines and autism, genetically modified organisms, gun control, health care and endocrine disruption require thoughtful and informed debate. But instead, these and other issues have often been caught up in the so-called culture wars. There are numerous factors that explain this current state of affairs, but one is the extent to which the scientific community has been unable or unwilling to explain the state and gravity of scientific findings. We academics will need to evolve to keep up with the major changes going on around us. At stake is how we will maintain our relevance in society.

"Exponential Leadership" part 1

CREATIVITY & DISRUPT
By Peter Diamandis via singularityhub.com

8 Principles for Leaders to Make the Most of the Exponential Age: “I think we still need great leaders with vision, the ability to find and coach people, to encourage people, to help them renew themselves, to go forward… I’m a firm believer that the future still depends on great leaders who can constantly reinvent themselves.” –Beth Comstock, Vice-Chair, GE.

Today’s blog is the first of three parts deriving insights and advice from three incredible, forward-thinking leaders: Beth Comstock, Sue Siegel, and Arianna Huffington. Change is coming. Exponential leaders must prepare for it and embrace it. Beth, Sue and Arianna participated in my 2017 Abundance 360 CEO Summit in a module called “Exponential Leadership.” This is a post for any exponential leader, so let’s dive in.

CREATIVITY & DISRUPT

"Betty Boop" Minnie the Moocher cartoon

CREATIVITY & DISRUPT
THE 30' CLASSIC CARTOONS

Minnie the Moocher (1932) is a Betty Boop short cartoon produced by Fleischer Studios and released by Paramount Pictures; starring Betty Boop and Bimbo, and released on March 11, 1932.In the cartoon, Betty decides to run away from her parents - who insist that she eat something despite the fact that she doesn't want to eat (to the Harry Von Tilzer tune "They Always Pick on Me"), and Bimbo comes with her.

Boop is an animated cartoon character created by Max Fleischer, with help from animators including Grim Natwick. A caricature of a Jazz age flapper, Betty Boop wore a revealing dress that displayed her curvaceous figure. Despite having been toned down in the mid-1930s as a result of the Hays Code to appear more demure, she became one of the best-known and popular cartoon characters in the world. "Minnie the Moocher" is a jazz song first recorded in 1931 by Cab Calloway and His Orchestra, selling over a million copies. Watch now this classic cartoon.

"Sarah Àlainn and Meaningful Silence"

CREATIVITY & DISRUPT
SOUND, BEAUTY & LIFE at TEDUxTOKYO

Each of us holds a vision shaped by experiences. Our experiences, indelible, personal, and vivid, change the vision of the present, of the past, and for the future. It is those experiences that develop that vision into something more tangible. Because it’s not what vision is, but what vision does.

Sarah Àlainn explains in this amazing talk the importance of "meaningful silence", which is often neglected in our daily life. Silence is not just "non-existence" of sound, but it can also be an essential part of music or any piece of art that brings us a hightened aethetic experience. Sydney raised, Japan based multi-instrumental artist and singer Sarah Àlainn has been making waves over in the Japanese music scene.

"Inverted Pyramid House"

cREATIVITY & DISRUPTION
BY PHILIPS STEVENS VIA DESIGNBOOM .COM

Makoto Takei + Chie Nabeshima unveil an inverted pyramidal structure to be built in rural spain: TNA the tokyo-based firm — is the latest architecture studio to reveal plans for a residence to be built in the spanish region of matarraña. following in the footsteps of office KGDVS, pezo von ellrichshausen, and johnston marklee, the scheme forms part of christian bourdais’ solo houses project — and initiative that asks a new wave of architecture practices to populate the remote spanish landscape with small resort-style dwellings.

Makoto Takei and Chie Nabeshima’s design for solo houses appears as an upside down concrete pyramid that has been partially sunken into the rural terrain. large apertures provide the home with daylight and ventilation, while internal living spaces are organized around a series of mezzanines or platforms, set at different heights. as the property is embedded into the sloping topography, guests enter at the dwelling’s intermediate storey — an elevated platform that overlooks the dining area below. "Game Of Thrones" Season 7 Finale

CREATIVITY & DISRUPTION
"Game  Of  Thrones"
Season Finale
BY SEAN T. COLLINS VIA  ROLLINGSTONE.COM

Two regents finally meet face to face, secrets (and bodies) are laid bare and the dead walk among us – what a helluva season finale. By the time the Wall comes down and the closing credits roll, 81 minutes have passed. But while it may have been the longest Game of Thrones episode ever, tonight's colossal season finale...

"The Dragon and the Wolf" – gets straight to the point, wrapping up storyline after storyline with ruthless efficiency. It forges alliances and breaks them, unites couples and splits them up, rewards some liars and punishes others. And most importantly, it builds up our hopes for a grand alliance against the darkness, then knocks it to the ground. In the process, the season finale deals out moments of happiness and horror straight out of the biggest GoT nerd's dreams.  Read Now the full recap about this amazing season final via Rolling Stone.
